Would a literary agent be interested in an already 'self-published' book?
If you self-published a book you'd need to establish a fan base before you submitted it to a literary agent and mainstream publisher. You'd need to tell about yourself and give blurbs about your project in places like twitter or blogspot/Wordmith blogs, call your local TV and radio station and get yourself interviewed (keeping a video copy of this for the agent), and go to writer's groups in person and online to get others' cards (their twitter adresses and such to keep in touch). Getting interviewed or mentioned in literary magazines, even a blurb, is great and you can do it by sending them a excerpt or copy (phoning them before hand). Consult the book Writer's Market by Writer's Digest publishers, it will take you to Literary/Experimental genre if you ask it. Work from there. No I know no one in the business.
